OUR PHILOSOPHY

At Batter Up Bistro, we combine old world methods with seasonal flavors, high quality food, energetic staff, and great customer service to our guests. In addition, we believe bread is an important staple. Therefore, "breaking bread" is both our center and our foundation.

We source our flour and other grains from a small local mill just south of Lansing. Our bread and pastries are made daily in small batches by hand with no preservatives. We honor process over production. As the world modernizes, society has fallen into a habitual rush. Instead, we are honoring the fact that good food takes time to create. This especially holds true for our bread. All of our loaves contain no or minimal commercial yeast. They are naturally leavened for several hours, even days sometimes. This yields a more substantial and flavorful product. Whether you are stopping in for a quick breakfast or desire a slower, more homey dine-in experience, we welcome you.

"I'm absolutely in LOVE with Batter Up Bistro!!! Cozy. Comfortable. Unpretentious. The smooooothest espresso...(I'll try the nitro coffee next time). Delicious cuisine with reasonable portions, perfectly seasoned, including gluten-free and vegan options. Breads that are on par with those I grew up on in San Francisco. The staff is kind, highly competent, and "present". The ambiance reminds me of the cafe's I hung out at when I lived in Paris! With so many folks choosing to live in downtown Lansing now, a leisurely stroll to this amazing place is doable...a true village experience. Please find the time to let this marvelous new business, not only spoil you, but have it become your "go-to" meeting hub for networking, meetups, etc. Can NOT recommend this place more highly!"
